Yep, that’s a picture Jake took in the SAN DIEGO CHARGERS locker room today! Yeah, that’s right! Our boy is a tight end for the San Diego Chargers!
We are so grateful to God for this blessing. Thank you all for your prayers. After playing a great pre-season game on Thursday, Jake got cut from the Houston Texans, but was picked up on Sunday by the San Diego Chargers. Not bad, Jake! Even Tim Tebow and many others who got cut didn’t get picked up by another team. The NFL is not for the faint of heart! What a crazy few days with lots of prayers. On Monday Jake plays his first game against guess who? The Texans. Lol!
Romans 8:28 is coming to my mind. And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
About the photo above: Sent a group text to the kids this morning. Jake replied with the above photo and: “Guess who is also rocking the 81.”
Youngest son Nick is #81 (For the Ragin Cajuns-University of Louisiana-Lafayette).
Nick texted: That’s what I’m talking about.
Then Jake texted back: I thought for once I’d copy you.
Betsy and I replied: Awwww!!!
What keepers these kids are, right?! So sweet that Jake took his younger brothers college number. In high school, Nick took Jake’s high school number, #1. Here’s both boys at a football camp Nick attended. Big brother giving little brother some advice. Picture taken by daughter Betsy.
We are all so excited abut this news about Jake and so proud of him for so many reasons. Jake has type one diabetes and really wants to do what he can for the diabetes community. His twitter reads: Jake Byrne San Diego Charger, Former Wisconsin TE, Type 1 Diabetic. Passion for helping youth with diabetes, feel free to ask me questions and advice.
Follow Jake on Twitter @sugarfreejb82 and you can follow my blog for future updates too!
Thanks be to God for this wonderful news! Going to be a great football season! Go Chargers! Go Ragin Cajuns! Go #81s!
Congratulations all the way around. From following your blog, I know how much work Jake has been doing. And to hang in there with being cut and all that. You must be soooo proud!!! May God continue to bless you all.
Thanks Chris. We are really proud. He’s a good kid with a solid head on his shoulders.
It’s always a pleasure to get updates on your boys- and so inspiring! I love that photo. You are obviously a great mom!
Awww. thanks Katie. God has blessed me for sure!
Congratulations to you and your family, Holly! What an exciting time this is for you!
It is we are so excited! We were really feeling sad after he got cut, then really said a lot of prayers, having peace that God knows the plans for Jake. Super excited when the Chargers offered him a contract!
God sure has a sense of humor. Jake got to play against the Saints in the preseason, now against the Texans in the regular season. I wonder who he’ll play against in the Super Bowl. 😉
That’s a good optimistic outlook Wade! God directs our paths and He knows where we need to be!
Congratulations to Jake, a lot of hard work and prayers.
Holly – no pun intended on being CHARGED is there.
Fr. Martin+
Thanks Fr. Dickinson. Pretty exciting!
Holly, this is so exciting and so evident of God’s plans we know nothing about, isn’t it? I’m so pleased Jake is settled at the Chargers and will continue to pray for his safety and success during the coming season. You are one blessed mama!
I sure am Sherrey! Thanks for the prayers. They mean everything to us!
I have a big smile on my face right now!! Congrats Jake!! I was thinking about him as the pre-season was winding down. All your kids are great…love hearing about them.
Thanks Carrie! And you were one of the first persons to meet him when he was born. Gosh, we never knew back then how things would go, did we? Although he was quite a big baby, lol
Hi Holly. Thanks for stopping by and following my blog Intrepid Tales on Insulin. And thumbs up to Jake. Great to hear inspirational stories about fellow Type 1ers.
cheers, Nat
Thanks Nat! There’s no limit to what type 1ers can achieve!
Great news. Good for Jake! Looking forward to seeing Nick here in Jonesboro on Oct. 22.
Thanks. I’m hoping to get to that one. It’s a bit difficult with church on Sunday, but we do our best. If I had all the money in the world and all the time, I wouldn’t miss any of the boys games.
Such a great update on both your boys! Keeping #81’s in my prayers. For I know that they know, that it is not whether you win or lose but how you play the game.
And as a mom, it is good to know that some of our lessons stuck.
Judy, thanks for stopping by. Thanks for your prayers. I appreciate them very much.
I guess I wasn’t paying attention in past years to just how difficult it is to make an NFL team – it is a really tough and even cruel process! I am so glad to hear that Jake got picked up. The Texans/Charger game is next Monday night, right?
Oops…you’re right. It’s a Monday night game. I was thinking it was Sunday Thanks for setting me straight!. It does take a lot to get into the NFL, and for sure it’s by the Grace of God that Jake, a diabetic who just wanted to play football has been able to come this far. God is great!
Great, great news. Very happy for all; God is Good!
