Saw this public art on a downtown building in Greeley, Colorado. Einstein is right. Imagination is more important than knowledge.
What precedes imagination also counts: stopping to look, listen, think. My life has been hectic and fast-paced lately. I can’t get to the service stations for oil changes soon enough between the thousands of miles logged on our poor abused Prius…
While driving, one of us (my husband or I) will often say, “stop!”
We both understand that this word means inspiration has hit. Recently, somewhere in Kansas, my husband said, “stop!” I braked, pulled over and he shot this:
Imagination at work. He’s got some cool inspiring thoughts about this scene and wanted a photograph.
Imagination also involves another aspect: The Holy Spirit. God. I believe that where we lack creatively, the Holy Spirit fills in. A small prayer often guides my imagination, infuses something more grand and excellent than my puny brain can conjure up on its own.
So, if you’re not feeling inspired, do this: Stop, look, listen, think. And pray. The Creator of the Universe is awesome and can always guide our imaginations into greater realms than we can imagine.
Wonderful reminder to listen to that still, small Voice. When I do, I’m always amazed at how gentle He is. If I don’t hear Him, it’s because I’m being too busy, too loud, too self-focused.
Thank you Holly. Blessings
Thanks Becky. It’s so true. One of my favorite Bible quotes is, “Be still and know that I am God.” Hope He doesn’t get tired of telling me that. 🙂
What a great piece of public art! 🙂

It’s so cool, isn’t it! I’d like to do a blog just on public art I run into! Lots of creative people out there!
We don’t really have any here. I think stuff like that in the UK is considered to be Graffitti, and hence vandalism 😦
Xx
Good points, sometimes we rack our brains trying to inspire ourselves, love your advice to just “Stop”
Stopping is good! Lol!
Excellent advice – thanks! (From one who is often too focused on my next “stop” to STOP!)
Haha Judy. I have to tell myself, “stop”…many times. You know, I passed that wall art a few times before taking a picture of it and really taking it in. Thanks for “stopping” by my blog!
I love this Holly! Beautiful photos of your journey right now and great insight on how
Important it is to take time to be still and listen, and know He is God…resident in us through His spirit. There is no end to his creativity…and the fact He chooses to share His inspiration and creativity is a joy and privilege! God is good! Thanks for sharing what He shares!
Thanks Glenda, It’s so true. He resides in us…and taping into His creativity and power, within us, makes all the difference in our lives. Thanks for coming over to visit! I’ll be knocking on your blog door soon!
Love your photos and the words to regain focus on the Creator of it all. It is such a blessing to allow our imaginations to let go and know we are simply His children with a gift he’s given.
Absolutely. It’s amazing how much better I can be in all I do, when I ask the Holy Spirit for a little help. God, within us, always inspires! Thanks for stopping by.
Beautiful pictures. Beautiful words. Beautiful post. Thank you, Holly.
Your welcome, Cindy. Thanks for stopping by!
Love that quote from Einstein, which has always struck me as ironic coming from him. I think I drove through Greeley once or twice when I lived in Colorado. That was about 15 years ago though, so I’m sure it’s changed considerably. I definitely don’t remember that mural, but that doesn’t mean anything. I might not have driven down that street.
I agree wholeheartedly with you that God fills in when we’re lacking creativity. Every day I ask for help in that arena, and every day help is granted.
It’s by the downtown library, on some old building. I thought it was really cool. Love your line about asking for help and every day getting it. I feel the same way.
Love the post, Holly! Thank you!
Thanks Lada!
I love this Holly! Beautiful photos, photos and wonderful, extraordinarily good, blog!
Thanks, and thanks for stopping by Stefan!
Yes! I’ve always been fascinated by the ways that creative life and spiritual life intersect. I think that imagination and human creativity are our tiny equivalent of revelation and Creativity, which is God’s action as the Creator. Especially when we are trying to use our gifts for good causes.
Well put! Thanks for stopping by Lydia!
Awesome quote from Einstein, and so true, too. Thanks for sharing! Holly, I just passed on the Kreativ Blogger award to you–you can check out the rules and whatnot on my blog today, and if you don’t feel like jumping through hoops, just take it as a bow of recognition to your wonderful creativity 🙂
Thanks Guilie, Yay! I love awards…they are so…awarding…haha!
Holly, this post and especially that last photo reminded me of Emerson: “Let us be silent, that we may hear the whisper of God.” As always, thank you for sharing your beautiful photos. I visit you whenever I need a break from writing. Your photos are so rejuvenating and inspiring. God bless. TMG
Thanks TM!
I think I need to stop more through out my days:-) I’ve experienced so many times where my little brain has tried to think of some new way to say something on my blog or in my book..and I feel stuck. THen I pray and an idea seemingly ‘out of nowhere’ pops into my head. Of course…the idea wasn’t really ‘out of no where’…the Creator is so good at surprises isn’t He? Great post Holly…needed the inspiration today 🙂
Your welcome Lorna, I’m always amazed at the results of a prayer.
To know if a child is intelligent is to ask does the child have a good imagination? For to imagine is to be bright enough to realize that it is all possible. It is when we grow too old to imagine that we forget we can do anything. And we can do all things through God. And the mind of God is beyond our imagining and yet he uses the simple to confound the wise. The simple act of imagination.
very true! Can’t take God out of the imagination picture
