Goa is the most fascinating place I have visited in all my travels around India. You hear the roar of the Arabian Sea and the sudden whoosh of tropical monsoon rains. You smell earthy bouquets, spices and oils from Indian open street cooking, and salty sea air. You see…well, let the photographs show what I saw in Goa…
…lush tropical flora and fauna
The Banyan Tree
The Arabian Seashore…
The Portuguese influence…below, the restored ancient Viceroy’s Arch that marks the Portuguese conquest of the city in 1510.
Ruins of The Church of St. Augustine, built by the Portuguese in 1602
Goa remains very Christian
The Basilica of Bom Jesus holds the mortal uncorrupt remains of St. Francis Xavier., except he is missing his big toe. Story is that a Portuguese woman, in a fit of revererence bit it off! Gross!
Beautiful altars where the God of Goa, Jesus Christ, is worshipped.
And before we left, I shot this from a table at a seaside restaurant.
Great photos! Looks like pictures from Hawaii in some shots. Thanks for sharing.
Awww… Thanks for the mention, Holly 🙂 Loved the pictures! We were in India for a couple of months a few years ago, and although we did get to travel a bit around Bangalore, where we were staying, Goa was one of the places we didn’t get to (along with Chennai, which I hear is also fantastic). It’s on the to-do list 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful pictures. One of my dream goals to is visit the saints with incorrupted bodies. How they must have pleased God in their life time. The town looks beautiful. Blessings to you and yours.
Shirley, It’s amazing! I’d love to visit more. Holly

PUTTING WORDS DOWN ON PAPER
Beautiful, Holly. I felt like I could see, feel, smell and hear Goa.
Thanks Cindy!
beautiful images, lovely blog!
My favorite was the Arch. I’m sure it’s amazing to visit other countries. We’ve only gone to Canada, which isn’t too drastically different from the USA. However, it was still interesting to see more luscious scenery, especially since we live in Southern California. More rain and green then we have. We took so many photos. Camping was enjoyable. Seeing the scooters in your photos reminded me of our honeymoon when our cruise stopped at St. Maarten and we rented a scooter and had to drive on the “wrong side” of the road. 🙂
